Sarah Palin is 'the new Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan' - Telegraph

advertisement

In a column entitled "Welcome Back, Dad", Michael Reagan, adopted son of the late president, wrote: "I saw my Dad reborn; only this time he's a she. And what a she!" After Mrs Palin, 44 and Alaska governor for just 20 months, accepted the vice-presidential nomination in St Paul with a tub-thumping speech, conservative commentator Larry Kudlow asked whether "we're not witnessing the Western frontier version of Margaret Thatcher". He added: "She connected really well with middle-class working folks, both in cultural and social terms, which is no small feat: values matter and the Democrats are in trouble here - big-time. The more they go after Palin culturally, as they have already, the more trouble they'll fall into." One blogger described her as "Margaret Thatcher with five kids and a Klondike drawl" while Jonah Goldberg of the conservative "National Review" enthused: "She was put on this earth to do two things: kill caribou and kick butt. She's all out of caribou."

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Heh. That's good. She certainly is kicking butt. The more the Liberals wriggle and cry foul and smear--the better. Thatcher is a comparison I've been reading about all over the blogs....very fitting. Thank God.

I have silently been thinking that all along! She's Maggie and Dutch rolled into one beautiful package!

Maggie and Dutch, indeed. I am wondering if she ever raced in an iditarod? My money would be on her. I bet she really knows her way around those maple leafy woods, and since she is a rooten-shooten member of the NRA, I know she can defend herself.

I am still undecided, one day Obama, and one day, McCain. I cannot wait till the debates, however I am concerned that McCain won't come over and the substance of what he would have to say, does not get out. Obama has won no automatic vote in my playbook.

Margaret Thatcher was a good woman. I would be honored being compared to her, I thin Palin would too!

Hi happygirl

As someone that lived through the Thatcher years I can tell you that she was the worst thing that ever happened to this country. When she became Prime Minister there were less than a million people unemployed. but she managed to increase this to almost four million in a couple of years.

She did not care about the ordinary, hard working British people she only cared about the rich. She stopped investment in schools and hospitals, removed matrons from hospitals and replaced them with managers who were as effective as a chocolate teapot.

In one famous, or infamous, speech she said 'there is no such thing as society, only individuals'. We are still dealing with the problems that resulted from this attitude.

This is a joke, Sarah Palin can never carry water for Margret Thatcher. Did anyone see her reading that teleprompter, and how she was hugging unto those words. If anyone compare her the Maragret Thatcher that would be an insult to poor Margret.

vibes412, a small correction for you. The teleprompter wasn't working. I thought she did fantastic.

Sen. McCain couldn't have picked a better Vice President. If I could, I would vote for them twice.

I hope she runs for President in 2012 and I hope I am still here to vote for her.

Maybe it was because she sincerely believes every word on it. Does anyone smarter than me know if she helped whoever wrote her speech? I know others have had the opportunity when speeches were written for them? I don't care how others feel about someone I like. I enjoy the ability we have to make a choice. If I were to follow the "PIPER" so to speak then HAPPYGIRL would not exsist!

Vibes, Sarah Palin will NEVER have to carry water for someone! She is a very strong, intelligent, and opinionated woman. To have her for V.P. would be a wonderful thing! I could listen to her talk anytime. I felt bad her speech wasn't longer.........perhaps I'll be able to hear her for 8 years if the cards fall as they SHOULD! I want Sara and McCain to win by a huge margin before this is all over. I do like Obama, I really do. It is just the fact he needs more time and more experience. When he is asked tuff questions he hedges around, I don't know for sure or not but I take it he doesn't know the answers. A few years under his belt then I think he will be ready and so will America. I wish all the candidates the very best. This campaigning is hard stuff,I'm guessing it is hard and very emotional for the families as well. Can you imagine how that would be?

Samantha, thanks! I guess I always try to speak from the HEART. Sometimes I have to bite my tongue or else it will make me sound like someone else. I'm who I am, I try to give others the benefit of the doubt. When I'm not sure about something I listen to others opinions then make MY decision. If I do feel I KNOW (then I may question myself) then NO ONE can change this girls mind! Just ask my hubby! HA! HA! He calls me Palin2! Crazy man. I love her personality and vitality, expressiveness. I only WISH I could be more like her! No, as I said I'm just little ol' me! Have a great evening Samantha!

There is more to Sarah than you might think my friend -- she has courage! Imagine being thrust into the national spotlight as she has been. Imagine yourself knowing that everyone expects you to fail -- yet you have to get up and "try" anyway. She can't hide and wait - she has a role to play and she's doing it very well.

Wouldn't that depend on the role?
